Update your Minecraft server for 1.6.4!

1.6.4 was just released to the launcher! If you’re running CraftBukkit with plugins, we recommend waiting until they release a stable build before updating. If you don’t mind playing vanilla for a while, or you’re already running a vanilla Minecraft server, here’s how you can update:

  1. Stop your server
  2. Delete the jar/minecraft_server.jar file from your server via FTP. (Be sure you don’t have a custom JAR name, and be sure you’re deleting from the “jar” folder)
  3. Make sure your JAR file in Multicraft is set to the correct version; this should be “Minecraft (Vanilla)” for 1.6.4.
  4. Start your server!

If you’re running CraftBukkit 1.6.2 and you want to update to 1.6.4 dev, follow the above steps with “craftbukkit_beta.jar” and using the “CraftBukkit (Dev / Latest)” option in Multicraft.

If you’re running CraftBukkit and need to downgrade your client to play, follow these steps:

  1. Open Minecraft
  2. Click ‘Edit Profile’ in the launcher
  3. Select ‘Release 1.6.2’ in the ‘Use Version’ section
  4. Save and login!

If you run into any trouble, just submit a support ticket and we’ll get you set up.

Minecraft Security Advisory – Authentication Exploit

The following has been emailed to all active and/or suspended CubedHost Minecraft customers.

** Please note ** Absolutely NO CubedHost services have been compromised. This is a general Minecraft security advisory.

We have recently become aware of a (working) exploit for the Minecraft protocol, that is a high risk to any server that is in online-mode and using an older CraftBukkit / Spigot build, or vanilla Minecraft.
This security exploit essentially allows for any user to authenticate as any player on your server. We have tested this exploit, and it does indeed work, making this a fairly high security risk.

Further details can be found via Reddit, Planet Minecraft, etc.

We recommend that you update to the latest version of CraftBukkit / Spigot immediately.
As far as we’re currently aware, there is no fix with the Vanilla Minecraft server as of yet.

To update your server, please follow this knowledgebase article.

Node 3 Sydney, Australia Downtime (round 2)

As of 3:50AM CDT, we received notification that our Sydney node 3 was down. According to our provider, we received an attack on their business network, thus we were automatically nullrouted.
Due to the previous 60+ hours of downtime just a few days ago, we contacted them 10 minutes after the service was taken down to have this resolved immediately.

We will have the service brought back online as soon as possible, and some measures to prevent these kinds of issues again will be put into place. Further details will be emailed to those of you on node 3 in Australia.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate the continued patience while we resolve this with our Australian datacenter.

Update: As of 5:12 AM CDT, service has been restored.

Hello from Phoenix!

While last night’s maintenance wasn’t as complete as we had hoped, Bill still managed to get a lot done over the past 5 days. He’s been working hard this week to get our rack in pristine condition and take care of some hardware issues as well. After redoing essentially the entire cabling for half of our Phoenix, AZ location, here’s some pics of the delicious servers.

Unexpected UK Downtime (Node 2 London)

We’re currently experiencing some downtime on Node 2 (London, UK). If you’re currently affected, please do not submit a support ticket as we’re working to get the issue resolved.
